Capacitors

Capacitors are electrical components that are used to store electrical charges. Capacitors are made up of two, oppositely charged conductors with an insulator (called a dielectric) between them to prevent the charges from escaping. Capacitors can be charged and discharged quickly, making them suitable for providing short bursts of charge. Their nature also helps them act as a reservoir of charge which are useful in many situations, some of which are mentioned in the next section.

Real-world Applications

SI Unit

Capacitance is the amount of charge a capacitor can store and is measured in Farad (F).
